성탄과 재림 사이 Between Christmas and the Second Coming

-Luke 2:8~11, John 14:1~6-

 

오늘 우리는 영광스런 성탄의 아침을 맞이했습니다. 우주와 인류의 역사 가운데 성탄처럼 놀라운 사건은 없습니다. 성탄은 하나님께서 인간이 되셔서 우리 가운데 오셔서 우리와 함께 사시며 구원하신 전무후무한 사건이기 때문입니다. 이 놀라운 성탄을 위해 천사들은 마리아에게도, 요셉에게도, 동방 박사들에게도 그리고 베들레헴의 목자들에게도 나타나 메시지를 전합니다. 그 중에 목자들에게 전한 메시지가 무엇입니까? 누가복음 2:8~11절을 보세요. “그 지역에 목자들이 밤에 밖에서 자기 양 떼를 지키더니 주의 사자가 곁에 서고 주의 영광이 그들을 두루 비추매 크게 무서워 하는 지라  / 천사가 이르되 무서워하지 말라 보라 내가 온 백성에게 미칠 큰 기쁨의 좋은 소식을 너희에게 전하노라” 성탄을 한마디로 무엇이라고 했습니까? “온 백성에게 미칠 큰 기쁨의 좋은 소식” 이라고 했습니다. 곧 여러분과 저를 포함한 모든 사람에게 미칠 가장 큰 기쁨의 좋은 소식이 바로 성탄인 것입니다. 왜요? 예수님께서 탄생하셔서 우리의 모든 죄와 사망의 권세에서 우리를 자유케 하시기 때문입니다. 곧 온전한 구원을 이루시기 때문입니다. 사랑하는 여러분! 만약에 성탄이 없었다면 어떻게 되었을까요? 먼저 저와 여러분은 이 자리에 있지 못할 것입니다. 교회도 없을 것입니다. 저는 개인적으로는 존재하지도 못했을 것입니다. 여전히 사망이 왕 노릇 아래서 우리는 여전히 죄의 종이 되어 좌절과 절망 가운데서 살았을 것입니다. 그러나 하나님이 이신 예수님이 인간이 되어 이 땅에 탄생하심으로 우리는 존재하게 되었습니다. 교회도 존재하게 되었습니다. 사망에서 생명으로, 죄의 종에서 의의 종으로, 진노의 자녀에서 하나님의 자녀로 신분이 변화되었습니다. 그러므로 성탄은 우리와 동떨어져 있는 2천년 전의 한 사건이 아닙니다. 성탄은 우리의 존재, 삶, 생활 그리고 구원 그 자체와 떨어질래야 떨어질 수 없는 관계에 있는 것입니다. 그러므로 우리를 향하신 이 놀라운 은혜를 우리가 크게 기뻐하고 즐거워 할 수 밖에 없는 것입니다. 그러므로 옆 사람과 다시 한 번 인사하세요. “메리 크리스마스!”  그런데 성경은 우리에게 성탄과 같이 예수님이 다시 오시는 날이 있다고 하시는데 그 날이 바로 재림의 날입니다. 그래서 성탄은 초림이라고 하고, 다시 오시는 것을 재림이라고 합니다. 초림은 갓난 아기로 조용히 오셨지만 재림은 만 왕의 왕으로, 심판의 주로 오십니다. 그러므로 오늘 우리는 바로 성탄과 재림 사이에 살고 있는 존재인 것입니다. 이 사실을 아는 것이 너무나 중요합니다. 왜요? 우리의 삶의 정체성과 방향성을 바르게 잡아 주기 때문입니다. 그러면 성탄과 재림 사이에는 어떤 일들이 있으며 그 사이에서 존재하는 우리는 어떤 삶을 살아야 합니까?

1. 먼저 초림과 재림은 동일한 말씀으로 예언 되었습니다.

 

먼저 구약의 선지자들은 예수님의 초림에 대해 예언을 하였습니다. 그 첫 번째 예언이 바로 창세기 3:15절입니다. “내가 너로 여자와 원수가 되게 하고 너의 후손도 여자의 후손과 원수가 되게 하리니 여자의 후손은 네 머리를 상하게 할 것이요 너는 그의 발꿈치를 상하게 할 것이니라 하시고” 이 예언대로 예수님께서 역사 속에서 여자의 후손 곧 인간으로 성육신하여 오셔서 사탄의 머리를 치심으로 우리를 구원하신 것입니다.  

창세기 49:10 “규가 유다를 떠나지 아니하며 통치자의 지팡이가 그 발 사이에서 떠나지 아니하기를 실로가 오시기까지 이르리니 그에게 모든 백성들이 복종하리로다”

이사야 7:14 “그러므로 주께서 친히 징조로 너희에게 주실 것이라 보라 처녀가 잉태하여 아들을 낳을 것이요 그 이름을 임마누엘이라 하리라”

미5:2 “베들레헴 에브라다야 너는 유다 족속 중에 작을지라도 이스라엘을 다스릴 자가 네게서 내게로 나올것이라 그의 근본은 상고에, 영원에 있느니라”

이처럼 성경은 여자의 후손으로 아브라함과 이삭과 야곱 그리로 유다로 이어지는 계보에서 오실 것을 예언하셨습니다. 그리고 동정녀 마리아에게서 성령으로 잉태 될 것도 예언하셨고, 그의 이름이 임마누엘, 예수라 불릴 것도 예언되었으며, 예수님께서 탄생하실 장소인 베들레헴도 예언되었고 역사가 이 모든 예언을 따라 진행되었습니다. 이렇게 초림에 대해 예언하신 것이 하나도 어김 없이 다 이루어졌는데 동일한 성경이 예수님의 재림에 대해서도 예언하고 있는 것입니다.

행1:11 “이르되 갈릴리 사람들아 어찌하여 서서 하늘을 쳐다 보느냐 너희 가운데서 올려지신 이 예수는 하늘로 가심을 본 그대로 오시리라 하였느니라”

살전 5:16,17 “주께서 호령과 천사장의 소리와 하나님의 나팔 소리로 친히 하늘로부터 강림하시리니 그리스도 안에서 죽은 자들이 먼저 일어나고 그 후에 우리 살아 남은 자들도 그들과 함께 구름 속으로 끌어 올려 공중에서 주를 영접하게 하시리니 그리하여 우리가 항상 주와 함께 있으리라”

벧전3:10,12b “그러나 주의 날이 도둑 같이 오리니 그 날에는 하늘이 큰 소리로 떠나가고 물질이 뜨거운 불어 풀어지고 땅과 그 중에 있는 모든 일이 드러나리로다…그 날에 하늘이 불에 타서 풀어지고 물질이 뜨거운  불에 녹아지려니와 우리는 그의 약속대로 의가 있는 곳인 새 하늘과 새 땅을 바라보도다”   

계시록1:7 “볼지어다 그가 구름을 타고 오시리라 각 사람의 눈이 그를 보겠고 그를 찌른 자들도 볼 것이요 땅에 있는 모든 족속이 그로 말미암아 애곡하리니 그러하리라 아멘”

계22:12 “보라 내가 속히 오리니 내가 줄 상이 내게 있어 각 사람에게 그가 행한 대로 갚아 주리라”

계22:20 “이것들을 증언하신 이가 이르시되 내가 진실로 속히 오리라 하시거늘 아멘 주 예수여 오시옵소서”

이처럼 초림을 예언한 성경이 재림도 예언을 하고 있습니다. 이것은 무엇을 말씀합니까? 반드시 성경 대로 이 땅에 초림하셨던 예수님께서 동일한 말씀으로 예언하신대로 다시 재림 하실 것을 말씀하시는 것입니다. 그러므로 이미 이루어진 성탄의 초림을 감사하며 이제는 동일한 말씀으로 예언된 재림을 사모하며 사는 주의 신실한 백성들이 되시기를 간절히 축원합니다. 

 

 2. 그러면 성탄과 재림 사이에 하늘에서는 무슨 일이 벌어집니까?

 

1) 먼저 십자가의 대속제물이 되시고 부활하신 예수님께서 승천하셔서 하나님 우편에 앉으셨습니다. 하나님 우편에 앉으셨다는 것은 하나님과 동등한 왕권으로 온 세상을 다스리심을 의미합니다. 사도행전5:30,31절을 보세요. “너희가 나무에 달아 죽인 예수를 우리 조상의 하나님이 살리시고 이스라엘에게 회개함과 죄 사함을 주시려고 그를 오른손으로 높이사 임금과 구주로 삼으셨느니라” 이처럼 임금과 구주로 선포되신 예수님을 통해 그를 믿고 회개하는 자들에게 죄 사함을 받게 하시는 것입니다.

2) 성령을 보내주십니다. 사도행전2:33절을 보세요. “하나님이 오른 손으로 예수를 높이시매 그가 약속하신 성령을 아버지께 받아서 너희가 보고 듣는 이것을 부어 주셨느니라” 승천하신 예수님께서 아버지 하나님으로부터 성령을 받아서 교회 공동체에 속한 한 심령 한 심령에게 부어주신 것입니다. 왜요? 예수님의 이름은 임마누엘로서 하나님이 우리와 함께 사신다고 하셨는데 승천하여 올라가셨으면 임마누엘이 되지 안잖아요. 그래서 예수님은 “내가 너희를 고아와 같이 버려두지 아니하고 너희에게로 오리라”(요14:!8) 하셨어요. 곧 다시 재림하여 오실 것을 말씀하셨는데 그 전에 또 다른 보혜사를 보내주시겠다고 하신 것입니다. 그 분이 누구십니까? 바로 성령 하나님이신 것입니다. 따라서 예수님은 지금 하늘에 계셔서 우리를 위해 모든 것을 준비하시고 성령 하나님이 우리 안에 오셔서 임마누엘로 함께 하시는 것입니다.  

3) 우리를 위하여 거처를 예비하신다고 하셨습니다. 요한복음14:2,3절을 보세요. “내 아버지 집에 거할 곳이 많도다 그렇지 않으면 너희에게 일렀으리라 내가 너희를 위하여 거처를 예비하러 가노니 가서 거처를 예비하면 내가 다시 와서(재림) 너희를 내게로 영접하여 나 있는 곳에 너희도 있게 하리라” 이 약속의 말씀대로 예수님께서는 지금 하늘에서 우리가 영원토록 살 집을 준비하고 계신 것입니다. 그리고 그것이 다 준비되면 다시 와서 우리를 데리고가 영원토록 함께 살게 하신다는 것입니다. 

4) 우리를 위해 중보기도 하신다고 했습니다. 로마서8:34절을 보세요. “누가 정죄하리요 죽으실 뿐 아니라 다시 살아나신 이는 그리스도 예수시니 그는 하나님 우편에 계신 자요 우리를 위하여 간구하시는 자시니라” 곧 사탄은 하나님 앞에서 끊임없이 우리를 참소하는 자입니다. 그러나 예수님은 하나님 우편에서 우리를 위해 변호하시고 중보 기도를 하시는 분이십니다. 예수님의 이 중보기도가 얼마나 효력이 큰지 이 세상 어떤 피조물도 우리 주 예수 그리스도 안에 있는 하나님의 사랑에서 우리를 영원히 끊을 수 없는 것입니다. 곧 예수님의 기도로 우리의 믿음이 떨어지지 않고 승리하게 되는 것입니다. 이것이 바로 초림과 재림 사이에 하늘에서 우리를 위해 예수님께서 하시는 일입니다. 얼마나 놀랍고 놀라운 일입니까? 그러므로 성탄과 더불어 성탄 이후에 예수님이 진행하시는 모든 구원 역사를 보고 성도는 크게 기뻐하고 기뻐해야 하는 것입니다.

 

3. 성탄과 재림 사이에 땅에서는 무슨 일이 벌어집니까?

 

이처럼 놀라운 일이 하늘에서 진행되고 있다면 그러면 성탄과 재림 사이에 땅에서는 무슨 일이 벌어진다고 하셨습니까? 땅에서는 양면적인 일이 벌어집니다. 먼저 예수님이 오셔서 땅에서 행하신 십자가와 부활을 통해 죄인이 구원 받아 하늘의 평화를 얻는 은혜가 임합니다. 이 성령 안에서 복음의 은혜가 땅 끝까지 확대됩니다. 그러나 동시에 치열한 영적 전쟁의 현장이 됩니다. 이것을 가장 극적으로 보여주는 장면이 요한계시록 12장에 증거되어 있습니다. 계시록12:1절을 보세요. “하늘에 큰 이적이 보이니 해를 옷 입은 한 여자가 있는데 그 발 아래에는 달이 있고 그 머리에는 열두 별의 관을 썼더라” 고 했어요. 여기서 해를 옷 입은 한 여자는 구약 교회를 말합니다. 그런데 이 해를 옷 입은 여자가 아이를 낳았다고 했어요. 예수님의 탄생을 말합니다. 그런데 하늘에 한 큰 붉은 용이 있는데 그 용이 여자가 해산을 하면 그 아이를 삼키고자 해요. 5절을 보세요. “여자가 아들을 낳으니 이는 장차 철장으로 만국을 다스릴 남자라 그 아이를 하나님 앞과 보좌 앞으로 올려가더라” 고 했어요. 이것은 승천을 말합니다. 곧 성탄부터 승천까지 예수님과 사탄의 치열한 영적 전쟁이 있었음을 보여 주고 있는 것입니다. 그리고 6절을 보세요. “그 여자가 광야로 도망하매 거기서 천이백육십 일 동안 그를 양육하기 위하여 하나님께서 예비하신 곳에 있더라” 고 했어요. 여기서 여자는 이제 신약 교회입니다. 그런데 보세요. 하늘에서 전쟁이 일어납니다. 7절에 보면 천사장 미가엘과 그의 사자들이 용과 그의 사자들과 더불어 싸워 이김으로 용과 그 사자들이 하늘에서 있을 곳을 얻지 못해 땅으로 내 쫓겼다고 했어요. 이 사건에 대해 하늘에서 큰 음성으로 무엇이라고 선포가 됩니까? 계12:10,12절을 보세요. “내가 또 들으니 하늘에 큰 음성이 있어 이르되 이제 우리 하나님의 구원과 능력과 나라와 또 그의 그리스도의 권세가 나타났으니 우리 형제들을 참소하던 자 곧 우리 하나님 앞에서 밤낮 참소하던 자가 쫓겨 났고…그러므로 하늘과 그 가운데 거하는 자들은 즐거워하라 그러나 땅과 바다는 화 있을진저 이는 마귀가 자기의 때가 얼마 남지 않은 줄을 알므로 크게 분내어 너희에게 내려갔음이라 하더라” 욥기를 보세요. 사탄이 하나님 앞에서 계속해서 욥을 참소합니다. 이렇게 하나님 앞에서 주의 성도들을 참소하던 사탄이 이제 땅으로 쫓겨난 것입니다. 그러면 사탄이 땅으로 쫓겨난 후 무엇을 하려고 할까요? 계12:13절을 보세요. “용이 자기가 땅에서 내쫓긴 것을 보고 남자를 낳은 여자를 박해하는지라” 이제 사탄은 지상으로 쫓겨나서 지상에 있는 예수님의 몸 된 교회와 성도들을 해하려고 하는 것입니다. 그러나 하나님께서는 자기 교회를 큰 독수리의 두 날개로 양육하고 지켜 주십니다. 이러한 하나님의 보호하심 가운데 사탄은 어떤 일을 벌립니까? 계12:15절을 보세요. “여자의 뒤에서 뱀이 그 입으로 물을 강같이 토하여 여자를 물에 떠내려 가게 하려 하되 / 땅이 여자를 도와 그 입을 벌려 용의 입에서 토한 강물을 삼키니” 라고 했어요. 이처럼 성탄과 재림 사이에 이 땅에서는 하나님께서 자기 백성을 구원하시고, 양육하시고, 지키시는 치열한 영적 전쟁이 벌어지고 있는 것입니다. 그러므로 성도는 이 세상의 보이는 세계만 보아서는 안되고 성령 하나님께서 가르치시는 성경의 눈으로 영적 세계의 흐름을 읽을 수 있어야만 하는 것입니다.

 

4.    그러면 성도는 이제 이러한 성탄과 재림 사이에서 어떻게 살아야 합니까?

 

사실 오늘 이 시간에도 우리는 이제까지 말씀 드린 성탄과 재림 사이에 살고 있는 것입니다. 이것을 잊으면 안됩니다. 그러면 이제 우리는 어떻게 살아가야만 합니까? 성도가 이 땅에서 살면서 하늘에서 쫓겨난 사탄에게 삼켜 살아야 합니까? 아닙니다. 사탄과 그의 세력과 싸워 이기는 삶을 살아야만 합니다. 그러면 어떻게 무엇으로 이길 수 있습니까? 계시록12:17절을 보세요. “용이 여자에게 분노하여 돌아가서 그 여자의 남은 자손 곧 하나님의 계명을 지키며 예수의 증거를 가진 자들과 더불어 싸우려고 바다 모래 위에 서 있더라”  사랑하는 여러분! 여기 사탄과 그의 세력과 영적 대결을 하고 있는 “그 여자의 남은 자손” 곧 신약 교회, 우리를 말하는 것입니다. 그런데 이 교회가 두 가지 무기를 가지고 사탄과 싸운다고 했어요. 그것이 무엇입니까? “바로 하나님의 말씀과 예수” 입니다. 이것이 성도가 사탄과 싸워 이기는 무기입니다. 요한계시록 13장으로 넘어가면 사탄의 세력인 두 짐승과 그들이 주는 짐승의 표도 등장하는데 이러한 모든 영적 싸움에서 성도가 이길 수 있는 것은 오직 “말씀과 예수”인 것입니다. 계12:11절을 보세요. “또 우리 형제들이 어린 양의 피와 자기들이 증언하는 말씀으로써 그를 이겼으니” 예수의 피와 말씀으로 영적 싸움에서 이기는 것입니다. 그래서 요한계시록에서 “예수와 말씀”이 계속해서 강조되요. 이 구절을 비롯해서 7번이나 나와요.

계1:2 “요한은 하나님의 말씀과 예수 그리스도의 증거 곧 가기가 본 것을 다 증언하였느니라”

계3:8b “내 말을 지키며 내 이름을 배반하지 아니하였도다”

계6:9 “다섯째 인을 떼실 때에 내가 보니 하나님의 말씀과 그들이 가진 증거로 말미암아”

계14:12 “성도들의 인내가 여기 있나니 그들은 하나님의 계명과 예수에 대한 믿음을 지키는 자들이라”

계20:4b “..또 내가 보니 예수를 증언함과 하나님의 말씀 때문에 목 베임을 당한 자들의 영혼들이 ..살아서 그리스도와 더불어 천 년 동안 그리스도와 더불어 왕 노릇 하리라”

 

여러분! 역사의 종말은 신랑되신 예수님께서 신부된 교회, 곧 이 땅에서 말씀과 예수님에 대한 믿음의 정절을 지킨 자들을 데리러 오시는 것으로 끝이 납니다. 계시록 19:7,8a,9b을 보세요. “어린 양의 혼인 기약이 이르렀고 그의 아내가 자신을 준비하였으므로 그에게 빛나고 깨끗한 세마포 옷을 입도록 허락하셨으니…어린 양의 혼인 잔치에 청함을 받은 자는 복이 있도다.” 이 말씀하신 후에 예수님이 만 왕의 왕으로 구름 위에 백마를 타고 다시 오시는 재림이 자세히 계시되어 있는 것입니다. 사랑하는 여러분! 그러므로 성탄은 예수님께서 첫 번째로 오셔서 우리와 정혼을 하셔서 우리를 신부로 삼아 주신 것이고, 두 번째 다시 오신 재림은 이제 신부된 우리를 데리러 오셔서 하늘에 입성케 하신 후 혼인 잔치를 베푸시고 영원토록 함께 사는 구원의 완성을 이루시는 것입니다. 그러므로 신부된 교회 곧 성도는 이 성탄과 재림 사이의 삶을 어떻게 살아가야 합니까? 우리의 신랑되신 예수님의 신실한 약속을 믿는 믿음으로 살아야 합니다. 그리고 말씀과 기도 가운데 늘 깨어 있어 다시 오실 신랑되신 예수님만 소망하며 살아가야 합니다. 이것이 이 땅의 삶을 승리하며 살아가는 것입니다. 사랑하는 여러분! 이제 남은 생애 내내 성탄과 재림 사이의 존귀한 삶을 이렇게 성령님의 돌보심 가운데 넉넉히 승리하는 주의 교회, 주의 백성들로 나아가시기를 간절히 간절히 축원합니다. 아멘. 

 

Today we have a glorious Christmas morning. In the history of the universe and mankind, there is no event as wonderful as Christmas. This is because Christmas is an unprecedented event in which God became human and came among us to live with us and save us. For this amazing Christmas, angels appear to Mary, Joseph, the Magi, and the shepherds of Bethlehem to give messages. What is the message to the shepherds? Look at Luke 2:8-11. “And in the same region there were shepherds out in the field, keeping watch over their flock by night. And an angel of the Lord appeared to them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were filled with fear. And the angel said to them, "Fear not, for behold, I bring you good news of great joy that will be for all the people. For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Savior, who is Christ the Lord.” What does it say about Christmas? “It is good news of great joy that will be for all the people,” he said. The good news of the greatest joy that will come to everyone, including you and me, is Christmas. Why? Because Jesus was born to set us free from all our sins and from the power of death. It is because he will achieve complete salvation. Dear ones! What would have happened if there had been no Christmas? First of all, you and I will not be here. There will be no churches. I personally wouldn't have even existed. Still under the reign of death, we would still be slaves to sin and live in despair. However, Jesus, who is God, became a human and was born on this earth, so we came into existence. The church also came into existence. From death to life, from slaves of sin to slaves of righteousness, from children of wrath to children of God. Therefore, Christmas is not an isolated event from 2,000 years ago. Christmas is inextricably linked with our being, life, living and salvation itself. Therefore, we have no choice but to rejoice and in this amazing grace toward us. So, say hello to the person next to you once again. "Merry Christmas!" However, the Bible tells us that there is a day when Jesus will return, just like Christmas, and that day is the day of the Second Coming. That's why Christmas is called the First Coming, and coming again is called the Second Coming. The First Coming came quietly as a newborn baby, but the Second Coming comes as the King of Kings and the Lord of Judgment. Therefore, today we are the beings living between Christmas and the Second Coming. Knowing this is so important. Why? It is because it correctly holds the identity and direction of our lives. Then, what happens between Christmas and the Second Coming, and what kind of life should we live in between?

 

1. First, the Bible prophesied both the First Coming and the Second Coming.

 

First, the Old Testament prophets prophesied about the first coming of Jesus. The first prophecy is Genesis 3:15. “I will put enmity between you and the woman, and between your offspring and her offspring; he shall bruise your head, and you shall bruise his heel.” He came incarnated as a descendant, a human, and saved us by striking Satan's head.

Genesis 49:10 "The scepter shall not depart from Judah, nor the ruler's staff from between his feet, until tribute comes to him; and to him shall be the obedience of the peoples."

Isaiah 7:14 “Therefore the Lord Himself will give you a sign: Behold, the virgin shall conceive and bear a son, and shall call his name Emmanuel.”

Micah 5:2 “But you, O Bethlehem Ephrathah, who are too little to be among the clans of Judah, from you shall come forth for me one who is to be ruler in Israel, whose coming forth is from of old, from ancient days.”

 

As such, the Bible prophesied that Jesus would come through the genealogy of Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, and Judah as a descendant of a woman. And it was also prophesied that he would be conceived by the Holy Spirit from his virgin Mary, and that his name would be called Immanuel and Jesus was also predicted, and Bethlehem, the place where Jesus would be born, was also prophesied, and history went along with all these prophecies. In this way, all of the prophecies about the First Coming have been fulfilled without fail, but the same Bible also prophesies about the Second Coming of Jesus. Acts 1:11 “And said, "Men of Galilee, why do you stand looking into heaven? This Jesus, who was taken up from you into heaven, will come in the same way as you saw him go into heaven.” 

1 Thessalonians 5:16,17 “For the Lord himself will descend from heaven with a cry of command, with the voice of an archangel, and with the sound of the trumpet of God. And the dead in Christ will rise first.17 Then we who are alive, who are left, will be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air, and so we will always be with the Lord.”

1 Peter 3:10,12b “For "Whoever desires to love life and see good days, let him keep his tongue from evil and his lips from speaking deceit;12 For the eyes of the Lord are on the righteous, and his ears are open to their prayer. But the face of the Lord is against those who do evil.”

Revelation 1:7 “Behold, he is coming with the clouds, and every eye will see him, even those who pierced him, and all tribes of the earth will wail on account of him. Even so. Amen.”

Revelation 22:12 “Behold, I am coming soon, bringing my recompense with me, to repay everyone for what he has done.”

Revelation 22:20 “He who testifies to these things says, "Surely I am coming soon." Amen. Come, Lord Jesus!”

Likewise, the Bible that prophesied the First Coming also prophesies the Second Coming. What does this say? He is saying that Jesus, who first came to this earth according to the Bible, will return again as prophesied in the same words. Therefore, I sincerely pray that you will become faithful people of the Lord who are grateful for the first coming of Christmas that has already been fulfilled and now yearn for the second coming prophesied in the same Word.

 

2. Then what happens in heaven between Christmas and the Second Coming?

 

1) First, Jesus, who was crucified and resurrected, ascended to heaven and sat down at the right hand of God. Sitting at the right hand of God means ruling the whole world with the kingship equal to God. Look at Acts 5:30,31. “The God of our fathers raised Jesus, whom you killed by hanging him on a tree.31 God exalted him at his right hand as Leader and Savior, to give repentance to Israel and forgiveness of sins.” It is to allow those who believe and repent to receive the remission of their sins.

2) He sends the Holy Spirit. Look at Acts 2:33. “Being therefore exalted at the right hand of God, and having received from the Father the promise of the Holy Spirit, he has poured out this that you yourselves are seeing and hearing.” Jesus' name is Immanuel, and he said that God lives with us. That's why Jesus said, "I will not leave you as orphans; I will come to you" (John 14:18). He said that soon He would return and come again, but before that, He said He would send another Comforter. Who is it? That is God the Holy Spirit. Therefore, Jesus is in heaven now and prepares everything for us, and God the Holy Spirit comes into us and is with us as Immanuel.

3) He said he would prepare a place for us. See John 14:2,3. “In my Father's house are many rooms. If it were not so, would I have told you that I go to prepare a place for you? 3 And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and will take you to myself, that where I am you may be also.” According to the word of this promise, Jesus is now preparing a house in heaven for us to live in forever. And when everything is ready, He will come again and take us to live with us forever.

4) He said he intercedes for us. Look at Romans 8:34. “Who is to condemn? Christ Jesus is the one who died--more than that, who was raised--who is at the right hand of God, who indeed is interceding for us.” But Jesus is the one who advocates and intercedes for us at the right hand of God. So effective is this intercessory prayer of Jesus that no creature in this world can forever separate us from the love of God in our Lord Jesus Christ. In other words, through the prayer of Jesus, our faith will not fall and we will be victorious. This is what Jesus is doing for us in heaven between the First and Second Comings. How amazing is that? Therefore, in addition to Christmas, the saints should rejoice greatly when they see all the salvation works that Jesus is carrying out after Christmas.

 

3. What happens on earth between Christmas and the Second Coming?

 

If such amazing things are going on in heaven, then what did it say will happen on earth between Christmas and the Second Coming? On Earth, things happen on both sides. First, through the crucifixion and resurrection that Jesus performed on earth, sinners are saved and the grace of gaining heavenly peace comes. In this Holy Spirit, the grace of the gospel extends to the ends of the earth. But at the same time, it becomes the scene of fierce spiritual warfare. The scene that shows this most dramatically is evidenced in Revelation 12. Look at Revelation 12:1. “And a great sign appeared in heaven: a woman clothed with the sun, with the moon under her feet, and on her head a crown of twelve stars.” Here she refers to the Old Testament Church as a woman clothed with the sun. But it said that the woman dressed in this year gave birth to a child. It refers to the birth of Jesus. But there is a great red dragon in the sky, and when the woman gives birth, it wants to devour the child. See verse 5. “She gave birth to a male child, one who is to rule all the nations with a rod of iron, but her child was caught up to God and to his throne,” This refers to ascension. In other words, it shows that there was a fierce spiritual war between Jesus and Satan from Christmas to Ascension. And look at verse 6. “And the woman fled into the wilderness, where she has a place prepared by God, in which she is to be nourished for 1,260 days.” The woman here is now the New Testament church. But look. War breaks out in the sky. In verse 7, it says that the archangel Michael and his angels fought and defeated the dragon and his angels, so that the dragon and his angels could not find a place in heaven and were cast out to the earth. What will be proclaimed with a loud voice from heaven about this event? Look at Revelation 12:10,12. “And I heard a loud voice in heaven, saying, "Now the salvation and the power and the kingdom of our God and the authority of his Christ have come, for the accuser of our brothers has been thrown down, who accuses them day and night before our God. 12 Therefore, rejoice, O heavens and you who dwell in them! But woe to you, O earth and sea, for the devil has come down to you in great wrath, because he knows that his time is short!” Look at the book of Job. Satan continues to accuse Job before God. Satan, who had been accusing the saints of the Lord before God, was now cast out to the earth. So what is he going to do after Satan is cast down to earth? Look at Revelation 12:13. “And when the dragon saw that he had been thrown down to the earth, he pursued the woman who had given birth to the male child.” However, God nurtures and protects his church with the two wings of a great eagle. What does Satan do in the midst of God's protection? Look at Revelation 12:15. “The serpent poured water like a river out of his mouth after the woman, to sweep her away with a flood.16 But the earth came to the help of the woman, and the earth opened its mouth and swallowed the river that the dragon had poured from his mouth.” In this way, between Christmas and the Second Coming, a fierce spiritual war is going on in this land where God saves, nurtures, and protects His people. Therefore, believers should not only see the visible world of this world, but should be able to read the flow of the spiritual world with the eyes of the Bible taught by God the Holy Spirit.

 

4. Then, how should the saints now live between these Christmas and Second Coming?

 

In fact, even at this time today, we are living between the time of Christmas and the Second Coming. You must not forget this. So how should we live now? Should the saints live on this earth and be swallowed up by Satan who was cast out of heaven? No. We must live a life of fighting and winning against Satan and his forces. So how do you win? Look at Revelation 12:17. “Then the dragon became furious with the woman and went off to make war on the rest of her offspring, on those who keep the commandments of God and hold to the testimony of Jesus. And he stood on the sand of the sea.” Everyone! Here we are, the New Testament Church, the “remnant of the woman,” who is in a spiritual confrontation with Satan and his powers. However, they said that this church fights Satan with two weapons. What is that? “It is the Word of God and Jesus.” This is the weapon that the saints fight against Satan and overcome. Moving on to Revelation 13, the two beasts, the forces of Satan, and the mark of the beast that they give appear. In all these spiritual battles, the only thing that the saints can win with is “the Word and Jesus.” Look at Revelation 12:11. “And they have conquered him by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of their testimony,” It is to win the spiritual battle with the blood and word of Jesus. That is why “Jesus and the Word” are repeatedly emphasized in the book of Revelation. It appears seven times, including this verse.

Revelation 1:2 “Who bore witness to the word of God and to the testimony of Jesus Christ, even to all that he saw.”

Revelation 3:8b “And yet you have kept my word and have not denied my name.”

Revelation 6:9 “When he opened the fifth seal, I saw under the altar the souls of those who had been slain for the word of God and for the witness they had borne.”

Revelation 14:12 “Here is a call for the endurance of the saints, those who keep the commandments of God and their faith in Jesus.”

Revelation 20:4b “…Also I saw the souls of those who had been beheaded for the testimony of Jesus and for the word of God,…They came to life and reigned with Christ for a thousand years.”

 

Everyone! The end of history ends with Jesus, the bridegroom, coming to bring back the bride, the church, that is, those who have kept the fidelity of the Word and faith in Jesus on earth. See Revelation 19:7,8a,9b. “Let us rejoice and exult and give him the glory, for the marriage of the Lamb has come, and his Bride has made herself ready; 8 it was granted her to clothe herself with fine linen, bright and pure…9 And the angel said to me, "Write this: Blessed are those who are invited to the marriage supper of the Lamb….” After these words, the Second Coming of Jesus, the King of kings, riding on a white horse on a cloud, is revealed in detail. Dear ones! Therefore, Christmas is the first time Jesus came and betrothed us and made us his bride. Therefore, how should the bride church, the saints, live the life between this Christmas and the Second Coming? We must live by faith in the faithful promise of Jesus, our bridegroom. And we must stay awake in the midst of the Word and prayer and live our lives hoping only for Jesus, the bridegroom who will come again. This is to live victoriously in this life. Dear ones! Now, throughout the rest of your life, I earnestly and fervently pray that you will go forth as the Lord's Church and the Lord's people, who are abundantly victorious in the care of the Holy Spirit in the noble life between Christmas and the Second Coming.
